Goju Ryu
Technical Series Volume 5
by Morio Higaonna 9th Dan.
From part 5 we understand the connection between Goju Ryu Karate and
the Chinese Boxing methods from which it developed. In the complex
advanced kata we discern elements of White Crane and Tiger Fist forms;
in Tensho we detect the characeristic movements of Rokkishu; in Kakie we
cannot fail to recognise the push hands known to Chinese martial
artists. Includes the kata Sesan, Suparinpei (standard and advanced
versions) and Tensho as well as the applications in kakie form of Gekisai,
Seiyunchin, Shisochin, Kururunfa and Sesan multi regional DVD |
Goju Ryu
Technical Series Volume 6
by Morio Higaonna 9th dan
Filmed entirely on location in a beautiful Japanese garden, this is
the sixth and final part of the Goju Ryu karate technical series
featuring the world's leadin exponent of Goju Ryu karate, Morio Higaonna
9th Dan. It is a fitting conclusion to a post-graduate level
instructional course that is regarded as the finest ever made on the
subject. Sanseru is a trade mark kata of Goju Ryu, and no-one performs
it better. The author also demonstrates in great detail the significance
of the movements, how they are used (bunkai) and training exercises that
develop the ability to apply these powerful techniques dynamically (kakie).
A beautifully produced and immensely useful learning tool that is in a
class of its own. multi regional DVD |

The
Encyclopedia of Goju Ryu Part 3 by Morio Higaonna Morio Higaonna was first taught the kata Seiyunchin
by his friend, Tsunetaka Shimabukuro. After he joined the dojo of Chogun
Miyagi in April 1955, he learned exclusively from An’ichi Miyagi, a
senior student of Chojun Miyagi, the Founder of Goju Ryu karate. Clearly
this kata was viewed as important by Miyagi Sensei as it was one of
those he chose to demonstrate during his research trip to Fuchow, China,
in 1915. He also taught it widely during his year long visit to the
Hawaii Islands that began in the Spring of 1934 where, it is believed,
he felt that Sanchin, the first kata normally taught in Goju Ryu, was
too arduous an introduction to his system for students who had not been
prepared by strength training and body conditioning. |
